The pintabian is a new breed of horse that has been causing quite a stir in the horse industry. It was developed by continually crossing tobiano horses back to purebred Arabians until a "relatively Pure" strain of tobiano, with Arabian "type" was developed.
Tobiano is an attractive, non-symmetrical pattern of large irregular spots that is not found in the purebred Arabian horse. Because of the genetic make-up of the tobiano gene, to produce a horse with tobiano markings, at least one  parent must be a tobiano. While tobiano markings are one of its distinguishing characteristics, it is not a "color breed" based only on these traits. Unlike crossbred horses, the Pintabian is a breed with a standard set of characteristics that has taken many years to develop. The majority of these horses are also registered with the IAHA & Pinto which offers additional opportunities for competition.
